Getting your test results
Please call after 2pm to ask about your test results — our reception staff have more time to help you then. If a doctor has left a note about your results, the receptionist will tell you what it says. If you want to talk to someone further, you can arrange a phone or face-to-face consultation.
You can also view your results:
- in your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
- in your SystmOnline account
How long results take
- blood tests usually come back within 48 hours
- infection results (urine, swabs or other samples) usually take 5 days
- simple x-rays can take up to 2 weeks
- MRI and CT scans can take up to 3 weeks
We may sometimes ask you to repeat a test. This does not necessarily mean anything is wrong — sometimes a sample is difficult to process in the laboratory.
Smear test results are posted to you directly, unless you have asked us not to do this.
Keeping your results confidential
We only release test results to the person they belong to, unless that person has given permission for someone else to be told, or is not able to understand the results themselves.
