Self-referral

Most referrals to specialists need you to see or speak to a GP first. But you can refer yourself directly to some local services, without seeing a GP.

Physiotherapy

If you have back or joint pain, you can refer yourself directly: Your Physio self-referral.

Talking therapies (mental health)

Talking therapies can help with stress, low mood and worry. You can refer yourself, or ask your GP or First Contact Mental Health Worker: York and Selby Talking Therapies. There may be a waiting list — you’ll be told if so.

Podiatry

Find out about podiatry referral: Podiatry referral (Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust).

Horizons

North Yorkshire Horizons is a local self-referral support service.

Mental health crisis

If you, or someone you know, is experiencing a mental health crisis, call NHS 111 and select the mental health option. This is available 24/7 and you’ll speak to a mental health professional.

If you are deaf or have hearing loss, use NHS 111 SignVideo or the 18001 111 Relay UK app.
